The distinct-looking Variable Russula mushrooms have been growing everywhere. After checking that the mushroom has forked gills and a white spore print, I cooked some up for breakfast this morning in a small amount of butter. They had a pleasant texture, and a very mild taste with a slightly peppery aftertaste. I would put them perhaps a notch below a supermarket mushroom.
