While riding around my neighborhood I came across an area of bike path where there was a thick layer of overripe mulberries covering the ground:

I think of mulberries as being the first berries of the season. Once they are ready to pick, we should have a long season of black raspberries, red raspberries, wineberries, elderberries, then blackberries, and eventually apples. Not exactly in that order, but pretty close! Oh and also I should mention that this year I noticed wild strawberries growing first, so maybe those are what kick off the berry season!
